Whether it is just “Sheltering in Place” in our neighborhood, taking a drive, or getting out for a walk, jog, or bicycle ride, we think this is the best time of the year to be living along the coast of Ventura County.
The Ventura County Coast has been our home for nearly 24 years now (very hard for us to believe, by the way), and being outdoor enthusiasts; we couldn’t think of any place we would rather be. As residents of the Channel Islands Harbor Beach area, we know that we are so fortunate to have so much of what we love to do just outside our door.
But though this is our favorite time of the year, Rebecca and I differ (just a bit) on our favorite time of the day.
For me, its early morning. I love being out on our morning jog along the harbor with the sun reflecting off the sailboat masts as it crests the distant Santa Monica Mountains. If we are out early enough, we can still catch a few of the herons as they begin to pull back for the coming day. Well-timed, we can make it out to the beach as the sun, still early in its ascent, reflects in the mist of the surf as it breaks along the shore.
For Rebecca, it’s those beach walks on those idyllic warm October evenings. Once on the sand, we can see in our neighbors what we are experiencing ourselves as the color of both water and sky adjust to the sun’s descent into the horizon. And, it’s as if the rhythm of the surf is there to provide the soundtrack for this magnificent spectacle.
Peaceful tranquility, combined with extraordinary beauty, is a backyard destination to be grateful for.
